Position Description
HDR is a rapidly growing consulting engineering firm, looking for energetic, entrepreneurial oriented individuals to join our Port/Marine program.
HDR is currently seeking a Port/Marine Project Engineer.
Perform investigations, evaluations and designs and develop reports construction drawings, contractual and technical specifications. Develop accurate opinions of probable costs for construction projects including developing general construction schedules for projects. Will also serve as a Project Manager on projects. The types of structures and conditions that the project engineer shall be proficient in designing are as follows: Anchored bulkheads and cantilevered retaining walls; Ship mooring and breasting dolphins Jetty platforms; approaches and pipe supports; Marginal wharves and piers Structures for dry bulk liquid bulk and containerized cargo facilities; Structures in severe saltwater environments; Structures to withstand dynamic and seismic conditions; Navigation channel and berth dredging; Special projects with waterfront components; Planning, layout and design of Ports and Harbors related facilities including, but not limited to, bulkheads, wharves, piers, navigation channels, jetties, marinas, outfall structures and other facilities required for accommodating and berthing vessels in a wide range of sizes.
This position requires experience in developing detailed reports, plans and specifications for projects having a wide variety of elements pertaining to port and waterfront design.
Exceptional knowledge of environmental effects (mostly wind, waves, current and seismic), corrosion processes and remedies and soil-structure interaction is required. Knowledge of construction methods, scheduling and construction costs are mandatory. Writing and communication skills are critical to the performance of this position. The person in this position will report directly to a Senior Project Engineer, Project Manager or combination thereof, to develop all necessary aspects of the project requirements in a timely manner. BSCE or related degree, 10+ years of related experience in marine structural design projects. Maintains engineering professional registration.
This position requires associated subject knowledge and experience in the use of software as follows:
Static and dynamic vessel mooring analysishree dimensional structural analysis with finite elements.
Soil-structure interaction analyses for laterally loaded piles and pile groups.
Microsoft Office suite of software
Fender selection and Slope stability analyses
