Tomar Electronics designs and manufactures visual, audible, and infrared solutions for illumination, signaling, communication, and control applications in industrial, transportation & traffic, public safety, government & defense, and custom OEM markets to protect lives and property.
We're hiring a Mechanical Engineer to join our US-based team in our Gilbert, AZ headquarters who is ready to build, learn, and innovate alongside industry veterans. You will work under the direct mentorship of our senior mechanical engineer, ensuring a deep transfer of institutional knowledge. This is a hands-on design and manufacturing role with cross-functional exposure and room for growth.
Responsibilities:
• Product Development: Collaborate with electrical, optical, and hardware engineers throughout the product lifecycle - from concept through design, prototyping, manufacturing, and field deployment.
• Plastic and Sheet Metal Part Design: Design plastic parts for injection molding and 3D printing. Create sheet metal components and specify related fabrication methods.
• Fixture & Tooling Design: Develop fixtures, tools, and efficient assembly methods to support production and R&D testing.
• Assembly & Interconnects: Specify and design for efficient wiring, connectors, and component integration, especially in low-volume, high-variability manufacturing environments.
• Mechanical Design: Design and develop mechanical components and assemblies, with a focus on outdoor use and extreme environments (temperature, moisture, vibration).
• Cross-functional Collaboration: Work closely with electrical engineering, operations, and production teams to ensure product performance, manufacturability, and reliability.
• Continuous Improvement: Identify and implement improvements in product design, manufacturability, and assembly processes.
Required Qualifications:
• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
• 5 - 10 years of relevant mechanical design and manufacturing experience.
• Proficiency in 3D solid modeling (SolidWorks preferred, other CAD tools acceptable).
• Strong understanding of mechanical materials and manufacturing processes including injection molding, 3D printing, and sheet metal fabrication.
• Hands-on experience working with cross-functional teams to build prototypes and support production.
• Ability to design tooling and fixtures for testing and manufacturing.
• Understanding of efficient assembly methods, including wiring and interconnection types.
• Technical writing skills, creation and understanding of engineering documentation, including BOMs, drawings, assembly instructions, technical reports, and version control.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Familiarity with electronics, PCB design, and electromechanical systems.
• Familiarity with DFM/A (Design for Manufacturing and Assembly) practices.
• Background in small company or startup environments where flexibility and initiative are valued.
